As COVID-19 vaccines roll out across the globe, those who plan on receiving the vaccine are wondering what exactly they need to do to prepare for the shot. Depending on the specific type of vaccine you receive, side effects and recovery times may vary, however, there are a few general pieces of information that you should know before arriving at your appointment.

Are you planning on receiving your COVID-19 vaccine in the near future? Read the following list of tips to learn what you can do to prepare yourself from the experts at Surfside Urgent Care of Laguna Beach.

How to Prepare for Your COVID-19 Vaccination Appointment

Ensure you have all the necessary documents – When you schedule your vaccination, you should receive a confirmation email stating all of the information you need to know before your appointment. We recommend reviewing this email before you leave your home to ensure you have adequate identification, a confirmation number, proof of eligibility, or any other information required by the clinic.

Respect sanitation protocols – COVID-19 vaccination facilities must maintain a high level of sanitation in order to continue operating safely. Individuals can expect to distance themselves from others and wear a mask at all times while inside the facility.

Learn more about your vaccine – Some vaccines may cause serious side effects that could inhibit one’s ability to work or participate in other activities for several days. The effectiveness of the first dose of a vaccine will also depend on the specific brand. We recommend reading up on your vaccine using the fact sheet that will be provided to you by a healthcare worker on the day of your appointment.

Expect to stay for a few minutes after your vaccination – As with many shots, you will be expected to wait at the facility for a minimum of fifteen minutes after you receive your COVID-19 vaccine. This is to ensure you do not suffer from a serious allergic reaction or other rare health condition brought on by the vaccine.

Do not schedule any other vaccinations – Vaccines can take a serious toll on the body, which is why healthcare professionals do not recommend scheduling any other vaccinations within the same two-week period. If you are planning on getting your flu shot or another vaccine, wait to speak to the healthcare worker who administers your COVID-19 vaccine before scheduling any additional appointments.
